Community Service and Restitution – Bexar County Juvenile Probation

ArtTent brings art, design, and cooking experiences to the young adults in the CSR program. By participating the teens earn hours that are deducted from their probation sentences.

The workshops include field trips (Ruby City, San Antonio Museum of Art, The McNay Museum, and The Briscoe Western Art Museum). Most classes include a sketching trip to nearby Confluence Park.

Collage & Transformation

Spring 2022

Participants created large scale collaged banners, in the spirit of papel picado, to initiate the art room space. The class activities emphasized developing drawing and observation skills combined with imaginative invention.

Blueprinting on Textiles

Summer 2022

Students spontaneously designed paper templates by observing and cutting. These were used in the blueprint process.  The pieces were finished with embroidery.

Painting Fundamentals

Summer 2022

Students sketched ideas, mixed colors, and prepped boards for their final painting.

The instructive and experimental approach in the class introduced students to a variety of styles, materials, and possibilities.

The Malleable World – Clay & Drawing

Summer 2022

Clay- the ultimate responsive material…accessible and satisfying. Students learned some basic clay hand building skills and put them to good use during our art sessions. Classes started with drawing warm-up excercises, sometimes at Confluence Park, then we progressed to object making. Finished pieces were bisque fired and painted with watercolor.
